Product Description

Revonox® 608 CAS 26741-53-7 Antioxidants

Description

In addition, the large molecular weight and unique structure of Revonox® 608 make it extremely thermally stable, making it the record holder for thermal stability among phosphite antioxidants on the market. As shown in Figure 1, 10% Revonox® 608 does not decompose until the temperature is above 300°C, which is 80°C higher than Deox® 68 (CAS RN 31570-04-4).
Revonox® 608 is a spirophosphite antioxidant known for its high phosphorus content and superior performance compared to other phosphite antioxidants. However, Revonox® 608 does not have the inherent hydrolytic stability weakness of the spirocyclic structure. Even after being placed in an ultra-high humidity (> 80%) environment at room temperature for more than 30 days, the powder of Revonox® 608 remains free-flowing! In the same environment, the most widely used spirophosphite antioxidant Deox® 604 (CAS RN. 26741-53-7) deliquesces after only three days.
Like other phosphite antioxidants, Revonox® 608 belongs to the category of secondary antioxidants, which can quench hydrogen peroxide during the auto-oxidation process, thereby avoiding yellowing or discoloration caused by oxidative degradation of polymers. When added to engineering plastics such as polyester and nylon, Revonox® 608 exhibits excellent color protection during plastic compounding, which is unmatched by other phosphite antioxidants even when added in excess, see Figures 3 and 4.

The excellent efficiency of Revonox® 608 cannot be simply summarized by high thermal stability, low melt color (see Figure 2), and high phosphoric acid content. Another mechanism that is not fully understood may also contribute to the high efficiency of Revonox® 608; it converts the dark intermediates produced by the oxidized form of the hindered phenolic antioxidant into a lower color form.
Revonox® 608 also provides high stability of the physical and mechanical properties of non-engineering plastics (such as PP, PVC, PS, POM, ABS, PMMA… etc.). However, the high melting point of Revonox® 608 (see Figure 5) limits its application in PE, PU and similar polymers, which have lower processing temperatures.
